10 Simple Ways to Lose Your Blog Readers
I know if you Google “10 Ways to Lose Your Blog Readers” then you might find 100’s of ways that you can lose you blog readers. Now the concern is which ones you need to follow first or how do you select your own blogging style so that you don’t loose any of you blog readers. Personally I have made a whole bunch of mistakes and I have learned from them. So, if anyone asks me what would be easiest things that they can do for keeping their blog readers to come back then I would tell them NOT to do the following 10 things. Enjoy.
- Credibility Knock Outs:
Honesty is the best policy for whatever you do, even when you blog. Be honest, straight forward and on point when you write about something. Do not try to go overboard with something that you write about and end up lying and doing something fishy. - Lack of Activity:
Write often and regularly. But posting once in a month is really pointless since the pace is too slow. Also, writing a whole bunch of posts in on day is also pointless in the sense that you are not allowing your readers to follow all the posts. Allow your readers ample time to read each of your blog posts. - Lack of Content:
When you are writing, please do not write just for the heck of it. Don’t write too short and blog posts. make sure to have a start and end of you posts. To get you started you can always read this ” How to Write Blog Posts Effectively” post and tweak your blog writing habit. - Advertising Greed:
We all know that when you blog, you are trying to make money of it as well. But you also need to learn how not to annoy others by adding five thousands advertising in every little corner that you can find. This is a super fast way to lose you reader immediately. I would suggest trying out multiple advertisers and then keeping the top most profitable advertising companies for you blog posts. - Stealing Content from other Bloggers:
Word is mouth is a fast way either to make someone successful to drag someone down. Do not get caught with stealing other content and by NOT putting a link to the source. Just to clarify, even though you add a link to source of your content you cannot COPY it all the way. You need to re write it. - Hot Linking Images:
Show respect to fellow blogger. It’s a big time No-NO for any blogger. Host you own picture and put a link if you have taken/used someone’s eles’s work. It’s fair, isn’t it?? - Offensive posts:
I know some people say that negative writing will get you well known. Even though you can write all you want, the way you want in you bog posts but no one like a bully and someone who yells and cries too much. Yes, being a nice guy to lead you to the success. - No Comments Interaction:
Do not modify comments. If you get spam comments then of course delete them but do not try to control others comments. Sometimes it will bug you but still you need to respect others for their comments and you need to support you reader comments. It’s the trust and conform level that you will destroy if you delete your readers non spammed comments. - Loosing Focus:
Don’t deviate from your main objective your blog. If your blog is about “Cell Phone News Blog” then do not write about “How to buy a car”. Stay strictly on your blog topic till your grow your blog. No one likes someone without a direction. Do you?? - Don’t have any “About” page:
I personally do not like to read those blog which doesn’t have any “about” page. How knows who write those blog posts. Everyone likes to read posts form a credible source. And a credible source will not hide his/her identity.
The above 10 rules should be you beginning of your blogging basic. If you already are following them then great and if not then you need to follow then from yesterday and allow you blog to be successful. It’s always you, who is holding you blog back from being successful.

Monthly Visitors for Top 10 Social Media Websites
I have posted yesterday about the top 10 social media websites in the US. Thanks to all of you who twitted it. While i was looking at the ranking, I was trying to look beyond the ranking. Some of the questions came to me were the followings:
- How many US visitors do those top ranked social media websites get?
- How can I interpret that top 10 social media websites list into something that I can use from marketing standpoint?
While I was looking for those answers, I know the following:
- As per Compete.com, last April Twitter had 19.4 million visitors from all over the world.
- As per Alexa.com Twitter gets 46.3% of its traffic from the USA.
Assuming both compete, hitwise and alexa numbers are correct, we can say that 1.21% of US market share will have around 9.12 million visitors (46.3% of 19.4 Million visitors) form US. This made the rest much easier. I used this information and I have calculated the visitors/month for the rest of the websites. Take a look and feel free to comment.
April 2009 Top 10 Social Media Networking Websites and Forums
This is very crucial information for any online marketer and webmaster, who cater towards the US market. Today, Hitwise.com reported that Myspace.com still holds the number 1 spot for social networking website with a whopping 32.7% of the US market share. Followed by Facebook as #2 with a 27.05% market share. And the recent social media buzzword twitter.com is ranked 6th with only a 1.21% of the US market share. Also, note that, this Hitwise data featured is based on U.S. market share of visits as defined by the IAB and from the Hitwise sample of 10 million U.S. Internet users. To refresh your memory, Hitwise measures more than 1 million unique websites on a daily basis, including sub-domains of larger websites. Hitwise categorizes websites into industries on the basis of subject matter and content, as well as market orientation and competitive context.
Outsourcing and Understanding Its Benefits for Webmasters
My Engineering Company is well known for NOT outsourcing its employees but lately I am seeing a vibe against it, which brings out my today’s topic. I will go a little deeper into the thought process that corporations go through before they start outsourcing and then I will simply enough for a webmaster or a blogger or a web designer to implement that thought process into his/her work. In a nutshell, I will talk about the following:
- What does Outsourcing mean?
- How can a Blogger decide when to outsource by understanding its benefits?
Outsourcing is an act of transferring some of organizations reoccurring internal activities and decisions rights to a third party provider as per an established contract. If you Google “top reasons for outsourcing” you will find a lot of reasons for outsourcing. It makes sense since this list will depend on the person (with different ranking) in your organization. The chief editor of your high traffic blog will think differently about outsourcing then your marketing guy. Another examples will be when you ask “5 ways to have fun” to a sales guy (highly energetic) and an engineer (goofy nerd), you will get two totally different answers where they both correct. Since there is no right or wrong reasons for outsourcing (we already established that reasons will vary depending on companies) you need to understand YOUR reasons of outsourcing and its benefits to you and your website. The following are five generalized sectors of outsourcing reasons and their benefits from blogger/webmaster/website owner stand point:
Improvement:
- Obtain expertise and skill that would not otherwise be available.
- Acquire innovative ideas.
- Improve credibility and image by associating with superior providers.
Financial:
- Reduce investments in assets and free up those resources for other purposes related to you website.
- Generate more cash flow by transferring assets to a lower cast .
Revenue:
- Generate more revenue by cutting down fixed costs.
- Expedite expansion process by utilizing more cost effective resources and systems.
- Expand sales and production capacity during times when such expansion could not be financed.
Cost:
- Reduce cost thought superior performance and low cost structure.
- Turning fixed into variable costs. (example: having permanent employee verses contractor).
Organization development:
- Offer employees a stronger career path.
- Increase commitment and energy in non core areas of your website with lower cost.
As I have said this before, that this list in not exclusively the ONLY way for you to find out whether you should outsource you website work or not, rather it should be a guide for you to make the right decisions for your website. Keep in mind, every little thing that we do, can be powerful if we can execute effectively. Finally before I go, don’t forget to “tweet” this blog post if you like.
