Outsourcing and Understanding Its Benefits for Webmasters

My Engineering Company is well known for NOT outsourcing its employees but lately I am seeing a vibe against it, which brings out my today’s topic. I will go a little deeper into the thought process that corporations go through before they start outsourcing and then I will simply enough for a webmaster or a blogger or a web designer to implement that thought process into his/her work. In a nutshell, I will talk about the following:

  • What does Outsourcing mean?
  • How can a Blogger decide when to outsource by understanding its benefits?

Outsourcing is an act of transferring some of organizations reoccurring internal activities and decisions rights to a third party provider as per an established contract. If you Google “top reasons for outsourcing” you will find a lot of reasons for outsourcing. It makes sense since this list will depend on the person (with different ranking) in your organization. The chief editor of your high traffic blog will think differently about outsourcing then your marketing guy. Another examples will be when you ask “5 ways to have fun” to a sales guy (highly energetic) and an engineer (goofy nerd), you will get two totally different answers where they both correct. Since there is no right or wrong reasons for outsourcing (we already established that reasons will vary depending on companies) you need to understand YOUR reasons of outsourcing and its benefits to you and your website. The following are five generalized sectors of outsourcing reasons and their benefits from blogger/webmaster/website owner stand point:

Improvement:

  • Obtain expertise and skill that would not otherwise be available.
  • Acquire innovative ideas.
  • Improve credibility and image by associating with superior providers.

Financial:

  • Reduce investments in assets and free up those resources for other purposes related to you website.
  • Generate more cash flow by transferring assets to a lower cast .

Revenue:

  • Generate more revenue by cutting down fixed costs.
  • Expedite expansion process by utilizing more cost effective resources and systems.
  • Expand sales and production capacity during times when such expansion could not be financed.

Cost:

  • Reduce cost thought superior performance and low cost structure.
  • Turning fixed into variable costs. (example: having permanent employee verses contractor).

Organization development:

  • Offer employees a stronger career path.
  • Increase commitment and energy in non core areas of your website with lower cost.

As I have said this before, that this list in not exclusively the ONLY way for you to find out whether you should outsource you website work or not, rather it should be a guide for you to make the right decisions for your website. Keep in mind, every little thing that we do, can be powerful if we can execute effectively. Finally before I go, don’t forget to “tweet” this blog post if you like.
